The construction of the Trakia district began in 1973 and is an on-going process even today, with new buildings, parks and residents constantly added to it. Trakia is still the most youthful neighbourhood of Plovdiv, in terms of average age, and it is the newest district in town. Currently it is the third biggest residential area with concrete blocks of flats in Bulgaria. In the last few years new buildings are constructed there, which are at variance with its concrete block physiognomy. The district consists of thirteen residential areas (micro-districts), the oldest of which is A9, Khan Asparuh, blocks 1-19, 44, and 310. Their names were specified after a referendum in the district: A1 – Lyulyatsite (The Lilacs) – blocks 200-229; A2 – Panayot Volov – blocks 190-199, 330-339; A3 – Todor Kableshkov – blocks 170-189; A4 – Khan Krum – blocks 140-159, 326-328; A5 – Targovski – blocks 120-139; A6 – Opalchenski – blocks 100-119; A7 – Kapitan Burago – blocks 80-96, 314-322; A8 – Oborishte – blocks 60-79; A9 – Khan Asparuh – blocks 1-19, 44, 310; A10 – Vazrazhdane – blocks 20-39, 311-313; A11 – Zahari Zograf – blocks 40-56; A12 – Lauta – blocks 57-59, 230-264, next to the Lauta Park; A13 – Skobeleva mayka – blocks 97-99A, 265-299, next to the Botanical Gardens.
