To the north of it is the park around the Rowing Channel. Provisionally the neighbourhood is divided into two parts, old (Smirnenski 1) and new (Smirnenski 2), with Tsarevets Street acting as the border between them. The old part is characterised by old brick houses and condominiums built in the 1950s and 1960s, whereas in the new one there are concrete blocks of flats built in the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s. The symbolic centre of the residential area, Ruzha Park and the St Kliment Church, is in the new part of the neighbourhood. Two more adjuncts are currently shaping up, Smirnenski 3 and Smirnenski 4, around the Bratska mogila monument and the Mall Plovdiv, respectively.
