Hadzhi Hasan mahala

The neighbourhood Hadzhi Hasan mahala, also called the Adzhisan mahala, or Adzhisana, is one of the oldest neighbourhoods in Plovdiv. It is situated in the centre of town, locked in amidst the Monday Market, the Old Town, the Shahbazyan Square, the Trimontium Square, the 6th September Boulevard, the Maria Louisa Boulevard, and the Iztochen Boulevard. For many years it has been accommodating residents of Bulgarian, Armenian, Turkish and Roma extraction, with the majority identifying themselves as Turkish. Archeological excavations provide a link between the present-day residential area and the historical past, revealing remnants of the Eastern Gate of the Roman Trimontium from Antiquity.
